This is the first in the Night Huntress spin-off series. Cat and Bones do appear briefly, but it's all about Spade and Denise. Spade is a Master vampire who witnessed the death of Denise's husband during the vampire war the year prior. He's been drawn to her, so when she's marked by a demon looking for one of her relatives who's fallen into the vampire world and then calls for his aid, he comes running and can't seem to shake his developing feelings for her. While this isn't nearly or action pack as the Night Huntress books, it was entertaining in its own right. Spade is protective and possessive as any vamp should be. Denise turns from a bit of a weakling to a fighter in her own right. I loved Spade, especially the shower scene :) I'm glad he got his HEA after all the heartache he's had.
