This book was recommended on a reading list and I was quite excited to find it at a Friends of the Library book sale. A lot of the reviews I've read make much of the fact that the narrator never reveals his or her gender. This speaks to how much society values gender constructs. The story itself is not particularly original; it's the narrators thoughts that drive the story. Some of the choices the narrator made angered me, but the prose is beautiful and the theme of the body as a repository for love is intriguing.
