I was very impressed with this. When I picked it up Eric said he'd heard it was a classic due to its impact at time of publication, not so much for its literary prowess. But I found that not to be the case. It really kept moving, kept me interested. There were some long parts, but overall I found it very good. I liked the looks at slavery from the characters different view points. I have to say though, that what sticks with me the most is Tom himself. What a character! I realize that he is fictional, that the author's purpose was to make black people human and admirable to her readers. But I still found him real enough, but an incredible example of faith and love and a true disciple of Christ. I loved how important his bible was to him, I loved his patience and long suffering, I loved how no matter what position he was in, he looked for a way to contribute and encourage. I was amazed at his love and forgiveness, and I thought his spiritual experiences at the end of the book sublime.
